How Bactiquick works

From water sample to field result

The video shows the complete testing process. The five steps below provide a simple overview, while the approved guides contain the detailed operating instructions.

Five clear steps

A simple field-testing process

Switch on the Bactiquick Tester

Power up

Switch on the rechargeable Tester.

Collect and dilute the water sample

Collect and dilute

Collect the water sample and prepare the dilution.

Transfer the prepared sample to the Test tube

Add the sample

Transfer the prepared sample to the Test tube.

Insert the Test tube into the Tester

Insert the tube

Insert the Test tube and allow the automatic test cycle to complete.

Connect the Tester to the Bactiquick App

Connect to the app

Connect by Bluetooth to view, record and retain the detailed result.

Connect. View. Record.

The result becomes a usable field record

The Bactiquick App connects to the Tester by Bluetooth and retrieves the detailed result with its date, time and location.

Keep a history of tests, review results by location and share the information with your team. The app creates the foundation for Bactiquick’s future water-intelligence capability.

Read the signal

Clear results for earlier field decisions

The app records the detailed ERU result. Interpret it using the proposed NZ recreational-water screening thresholds below.

Bactiquick Tester showing illuminated result colours

Green — ≤25 ERU

NZ E. coli reference: ≤260 CFU/100 mL. Lower Gram-negative bacterial-risk signal.

Amber — 26–49 ERU

NZ E. coli reference: 261–540 CFU/100 mL. Elevated signal requiring investigation.

Red — ≥50 ERU

NZ E. coli reference: >540 CFU/100 mL. High Gram-negative bacterial-risk signal requiring action and investigation.

NZ recreational-water screening thresholds: Bactiquick measures an endotoxin-associated Gram-negative bacterial-risk signal, not an E. coli count. These are proposed NZ recreational-water screening thresholds, associated with the E. coli reference levels shown; they are not direct ERU-to-E. coli conversions or definitive safe-to-swim results. Supporting evidence is Molendotech’s supplied analysis, Determining New Zealand thresholds for inland bathing water: an ROC analysis of 607 southwest England inland-water samples. This is an analysis supplied by Molendotech, not presented as a peer-reviewed or published study. Local comparative testing is needed to confirm or refine performance in New Zealand. Bactiquick does not replace any required regulatory laboratory testing.
